The pink water seen in this 2002 picture of the shorline is tinted by algae which thrives in the north east reaches of The Great Salt Lake where the saline content is higher. It creates a striking contrast to the distant blue water of the lake where the water becomes deeper and the algae thins out. An interesitng note: during average years, The Great Salt Lake is only about 35 feet deep.
