The Great Ingram Adventure:
Returning to The Jetty

This labor day weekend we made a return trek to The Spiral Jetty on The Great Salt Lake. The Spiral Jetty is a piece of public art created by Robert Smithson in 1970 and can be found on the north east shore of the lake, just west of the Promontory mountains. In this picture, taken labor day 2002, the jetty became accessible for the first time since the late 70's. The extended drought had finally brought the water level low enough to see "The Jetty" Additionally, The Spiral Jetty had gone through a metamorphasis, the black bassalt rocks placed by Smithson had been encrusted by salt crystals from roughly 20 years under the surface. The crystals made the jetty shine in the sun and stand out like a beacon in the pink water.
