The Gateway Arch in St. Louis was completed on this day in 1965 (and dedicated in the next year). I thought it was quite ironic (don'tcha think) to note that the St. Louis Cardinals lost the world series in their hometown just a day before the 39th anniversary of this monuments completion. Mystical alignment of the stars or plain old coincidence? I guess we'll know if they win 'The Series' next year. Hopefully 40 is a lucky number for the 'Cards'.
