Sons of The Utah Pioneers Award

The Centerville North Stake takes home the SOTUP choice award, one of the most prestigious. With the exception of the Childrens Choice and Peoples Choice awards (which are chosen by popular vote) the Sons and Daugters of The Utah Pioneers get first choice.

Children's Choice

The Sandy Crescent South Stake wins the Children's Choice Award with this float.

The Winner Is...

We've been lucky enough to be parade judges again this year and now the tallys are in. The Farmington Stake (Seagull's Cricket BBQ) wins the two biggest awards: People's Choice and Sweepstakes Award. There were lots of great floats this year, in fact the overall quality of each float was quite high this year.
Other award winners include Wal-Mart/Primary Childrens Hospital earning the Presidents award, KFC wins the queens award, Trolley Square takes the Theme Award and Orem City gets the Govenor Award.

Zodiac

4/5 Stars
Rated R - Rated R - Rated R - Rated R

This was not bad, not bad at all. Surprisingly suspenseful and compelling. This story has been told before: extreme circumstances draw people together but prolonged passion for the cause begins ruining lives and families. The thing that keeps this plot from dying is the constant reminder that (most of) this really happened. I'm not an aficionado on the Zodiac killer, but most of the events in this film were familiar to me and to see someones interpretation on how these events might have impacted these individuals was great.

The cons: The film became tedious as the focus of the film switches from law enforcement/journalism to fanatic problem solving. Once the change had occurred, things became interesting again. Also, this movie was too gruesome for it's own good. In what I perceive to be an attempt to make the crimes more distasteful and drive the motivation of characters in the plot, the movie ends up driving closer to horror film extremes. (Granted, these crimes WERE gory and horrifying, but I believe the balance between showing the brutality and masking it at just the right moment could have been more even. Furthermore, I think that putting more care into that balance would have driven the film to PG-13 territory and made it a hit.)

Memory Tag

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

Spooky

Is finding your name on the bottom of a dough tray similar to seeing your picture on a milk carton?

My family gave me a neato present today: a WALL-e plush toy. My daughter says WALL-e will keep me happy when I'm at work.

Another Three Cache Weekend

A weekend Geocaching expedition brings my total finds to 191 and more deeply engrains the joys of Geocaching for Emma who now asks to go Geocaching hourly. Mom came with us on this trip over trappers loop which turned out to be a fritful drive. Caches are relatively undisturbed along the route and the containers are particularly creative. I especially liked "loop d'loop" by UtahJean which took is a bit off the path and yielded some outstanding views.
