The Great Ingram Adventure:
Trip-A-Palooza - Day 8

We're Disneyland bound!
Today we grab mom after her last meeting in Houston to catch a flight to LAX, then on to Disneyland. We'll be there for a few days before mom goes to meetings in the L.A. Training Center. I think we're all pretty excited, not only to get to Disneyland, but to leave the more grueling part of the trip behind us. We just had breakfast with mom and two of her coworkers, Matt and Hunter and sent mom off to work as they caught the shuttle back to the airport. Emma and I are finishing up some laundry and packing up the last of the stuff in preperation to go.

Pappadeaux's has been a Houston mainstay for years, but amongst those who run in the SkyWest circle, it's a relatively new discovery that we take advantage of whenever we're at George Bush Intercontinental. They have a gourmet lunch buffet featuring blackened salmon and rice pilaf among other creations. It's quite well priced to bring in the airport traffic so we take advantage of a great meal when we can. Emma seemed to like ol' Pappadeaux's too, perhaps it will become a family mainstay as well.

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Trip-A-Palooza - Day 7

It's Tuesday and we're back in travel mode. We'll board a brasilia and fly back to Houston one last time. Tomorrow afternoon, we'll be en route to Disneyland!

Took this picture so Carrie could see the hotel.

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Trip-A-Palooza - Day 6

We're still in the "Holidome" in Monroe, LA. Looks like we're hanging out in the hotel today. Cars are way too expensive. Gutter water in death valley is less expensive than these cars. So we're updating the blog, listening to the Movie Show and otherwise taking advantage of the blazing fast 1.3 megabit in room broadband.

The highest quality parking space, for the highest quality employee, at our high quality hotel.

AirNav: Monroe Regional Airport

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Trip-A-Palooza - Day 5

Monroe, LA is todays destination, back on the brasillias (they're so cool :-D) for what will be close to a two hour flight on one of the longest routes SkyWest flies out of Houston.

This shot was taken on the flight back to Houston from Killeen on Sat, the 25th. I was a beautiful flight. One of those trips that makes you feel like you're in a movie. When we broke through the clouds the sun began to shine off the polished aluminum like a star burst, seeing the physics of air travel rocket us through the air above the clouds.

Emma likes to fly, espcially when there's room for her own chair!
AirNav: Robert Gray Army Airfield

This is an EMB-120 AKA, a Brasilia by Embraer. These are fabulous planes, a plane lovers plane. When it comes to flying, this craft leaves out none of the fun, from clibing the stairs into the fusalage to watching the propellers through the window, these are great aircraft.

As if seeing Air Force One wasn't cool enough, parked to port of the President's Jet was a C-5 Galaxy. The granddaddy of all cargo planes. I apparenlty had just missed seeing the nose open while it was being loaded.

Yes, you're right, it's the aircraft that serves as Air Force One. I thought AF1 was a 747-400 but this plane lacks the winglets and extended upper deck of the 400 series. I need to do some extra research.
While preparing to fly back to Houston from Killeen (GRK) we learned that Air Force One was parked on the tarmack on the Fort Hood side of the Airport. I was escorted out on the ramp so I could take a few pictures. (You'll see them soon.)

You may have noticed on the news that President Bush is at his ranch in Crawford (TX) preparing for the upcoming debates. Waco (TX) is the closest airstrip to Crawford and serves as the access point for The President. Here's the twist and how I fit in: This is the first trip to Crawford The President has taken since the opening of the new airport in Killeen. That new airport boasts a runway far larger than the old one, and is actually on U.S. Gov. property. In other words, this new super long runway is actually within Ft. Hood boundries. Because of this new access to a militray base so close to Crawford, the 747 that serves as Air Force One was ferried over for parking after dropping off President Bush. So I got to take a few pictures, and you are the benefactors (don't you feel special?)

Emma catches some Z's before our flight back to Houston.

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Trip-A-Palooza - Day 4

Today we're catching a plane back Houston before heading out to another station with mom.

Emma shows off her museum souvenier.

A small token from the museum.

Doug tires to come off as cool as his bud Jerrod by posing in front of a HMMWV. (Never mind the brand new barracks in the background.)

This Vietnam Era helicopter, the Cobra, was the first attack helicopter ever developed. Today the USMC flies it's advanced sister, the Cobra II.

Emma likes the Sky Crane too!

Of course, being partial to aircraft myself, I was amazed to see this Sikorsky Sky Crane. It dominated the field and seemed like it was still ready to spring up like a resting grasshopper.

There were a lot of outdoor exhibits from WWII era machines to some Desert Storm equipment. This was one of my favorites, The Abrhams, that's one scary stare down that cannon, even knowing the thing's full of cement.

We trekked out to Fort Hood to see the museum of the first cavalry. Getting on base was an ordeal tantemount to penetrating the inner eschilons of the CIA. After being directed to two wrong entrances and being given the third degree, I finally found the entrace to the visitor pass entrance. The guards had me open all my doors (myself) and search round. We finally made our way the museum which was practically in the center of the base.

We stopped by the airport to bring mom lunch and stopped for the photo op.

Dad and Emma found thier frist Texas Geocache in this field.

Trip-A-Palooza - Day 3

We're catching the shuttle back to the airport to pick up a car for the day at an insanely awesome rate ($15). We'll keep you posted.

This is the brand new airport at Killeen, which also serves the commercial flights carring Army staff to neighboring Fort Hood (of the First Cavalry). It's quite nice and is rather large for a regional airport. While it still has four jetways (typical for Texas regional AP's) the public areas are much bigger to accomadate larger crowds and higher passenger loads at ticket counters, waiting areas and baggage claim.

The 50 minute trip to Killeen was Emma's first ride aboard a EMB-120 (Brasillia) Turbo Prop. She handled it so well and seemed to really enjoy the oversize windows on the brasillia's. She sat with mom almost the whole time while dad played backup. That's the whole reason we're here.

This is our view from the hotel window on Thursday morning. SkyWest flies these Brasillia's to regional airports all over Texas and Louisiana.

Is that true? Can I get a witness? I've SEEN the light!

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Trip-A-Palooza - Day 2

Starting off with a trip to Killeen. Dad got a little breakfast and Emma caught a nap while mom went to the station. We'll meet up with her at the airport for our ride to Killeen

AirNav: George Bush Intercontinental Airport/Houston

After a swim in the pool with mom, we stayed in to watch the Law and Order premier. After puting baby to bed, we caught a showing of "Napolean Dynamite". Bizzare little film.

Dad and Emma catch a bite at the grill in the hotel while mom works at the airport. Emma lover her personal spot on the bench, and the nice ladies at the restraunt let dad move the furniture so we could have a fun meal together.

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Trip-A-Palooza - Day 1

We started today what has ended up becoming a whirlwind of a trip. We'll be following mom around Texas for a week, then spending about a week in Disneyland while mom works in L.A. Today we caught a Continental (CO) flight to Houston. It was the first time I had flown on mainline Continental, and the first time in an MD-80 for three years. Mom ran to her meetings while Emma and I grabbed the bags and checked into the hotel. We're staying in the Airport Marriott, a simple train ride between the terminals. I've stayed with Hannah in this hotel before and I it's one of my favortie Marriott's. It has a rotating restraunt upstairs, and nice pool and great grill with a breakfast buffett. The best part of this hotel lies in the great room we got, we're on the northside and have a great view of all the Sky West Brasillia's parking on the tarmack as well as planes taxing by, I've see 777's, 737's, ERJ's, and a 757 was parked for some kind of maintenance. Very cool! The Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport Marriott page.

Yo Soy El Army! You can't say the Army doesn't know thier key demographic.

My friend Jerrod works full-time for the Utah National Guard (in addition to his monthly Guard duties) when he's not on active duty as he is now. (What's up Jer?! Leave me a comment!) He travels with a rock wall similar to this one offering drug prevention seminars at schools, scout troops and like orgainizations.

This was probably my favorite aircraft on display at the races. The DC-5 was a sleek and striking sibling to the ground breaking DC-3 that, in my humble opinion, didn't recieve the due notabilty that was attributed to the famous "3".

This line up of F-15's was enough to make me feel quite secure.

Staring down the barrels of the 30mm gatling style cannon was chilling. Seeing the rifling spiral down the barrell left me with a stinging sense of pin point lethality.

The A-10, a marvel of aviation engineering, is also an imposing aricraft.

This blackhawk was awe inspiring.

I got to sit in the pilot's seat of this C-130 Hercules.

A Beechcraft gleams in the desert sun.

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Reno Road Trip - Day 3

We started the day early with Aaron McKay at the Air Races. The staic displays were fabulous and the races were indeed worthwhile. We met up with the rest of the Sky West contingency and watched the races for a while. We made the drive back that evening. We started in the early afternoon and spend 9 hours 43 minutes traveling, 7 hours 23 minutes moving. We averaged 72.5 MPH while moving and 55.1 MPH overall.

The JeepCruzer snaps a photo near a cache claim at historic Reno.

Emma Is happy to be on vacation in such a "big city".
Well "something fun" finally came along. Emmie and I took a swim while we waited for the laundry to finsih. When it was done, we slipped into our clean dud's and set off for some geocaching and dinner. We tracked down a micro cache in the center of the city and we were delighted to have a destinaiton that would show us so much of this fun little town.

The Great Ingram Adventure:
Reno Road Trip - Day 2

Well, Emma wasn't going to get up, so we weren't either. We slept in and had lunch before mom had to run to her meetings. Now, we're sitting in a tiny laundry room, waiting to do something fun.
